African American hair tends to be drier than other types of hair. For growing it, look for products that are gentle and moisturizing and made with natural vegetable oils. Avoid products made with petrolatum and mineral oil. These ingredients coat the hair, but do not moisturize it. Also avoid grain alcohol in your hair care products (vodka, or SD-Alcohol). Cetyl alcohol is fine. Grain alcohol strips the hair of moisture. There are many products out there to try. You just have to search for them. For me personally, Northwest Scents(TM) products have helped me to grow my hair. Wild Growth

You can use it after washing before you dry, or you can use it up to 3 times a week on dry hair.

It costs about $9 and most beauty supply stores keep it behind the counter. So if you don't see it in the store, ask someone for it. You most likely won't find it in any other store besides a specialty hair supply store.

I makes your hair so soft and repairs damage. I've cut my hair short before and less than a year later its past my ears. You only have to use a few drops a day so that $9 goes a looooong way. lol. What's a good African american hair growth product i can buy?

    African American Hair GROWTH PROBLEMS?

Im 13 years old and I will be going to high school next year.

When I was little my hair broke off and never grew back.

Since then I wore weave. My hair is VERY short down to my ears and the back is like a VERYYYYY TINY afro I mean TINY

My hair is very dry and I think its breaking off but I don't

know what to do. My hair just isnt growing. How can I get it to

start growing at lease shoulder length.

    PLEASE HELP

    IM DESPIRIT FOR HAIR

    LOL

BUT NO [IM SERIOUS]African American Hair GROWTH PROBLEMS?
to grow African curly hair naturally

what you need is a full hair care regimen

by protecting the existing hair and growing a healthy new hair from the scalp

    - minimize manipulation of your hair as possible

normally Hair grows at an average rate of about 1/2 inch per month. so you should get 6 inches growth a year with proper care

satin or silk pillow case or wear a head scarf ';satin and silk don't absorb moisture from your hair '; when going to sleep

when brushing hair treat it like gold

start from the tips up to the scalp and if it tangels just loose the brush and untangel it with your fingers

scalp massage daily with finger tips and not with finger nails

to protect a curly hair you should understand that its dry because the natural oils are prevented from moisturizing the hair from the scalp by the curls even when the scalp might be oily , and more then that in every curl there is a weak point with more tendency to break

the solution would keeping it mosturized all the time by not washing hair more than 3 times a months with shampoo and using only conditioner when ever you feel like washing it.

when washing do ';CWC';condition ,wash ,condition.

dilute the shampoo in water in other bottle before applying it to the hair ,after towel dry apply the leave in conditioner.

It is a good idea to use protein treatments to prevent breakage and rebuild hair structure.hot oil treatments to seal in moisture, wearing you hair in a protective hairstyle

    or if waring weaves thats enough protection all you have to do is keep it clean but moisturized ';your hair';

highly protein diet , fresh vege's and fruits and finally

    cod liver ';fish oil'; capsule

good luckAfrican American Hair GROWTH PROBLEMS?
I see some good responses in some of the previous posts, and some that are ridiculous.

Anyway, have you ever tried to embrace your shorter hair? I know wearing the weave offers more options and you can switch it up, but there are thousands of women sporting texturizers, freeze curls, or pixie cuts with fades or shag that are beautiful.

Basically you, your ma, and a cosmetologist/ trichiologist/ dermatologist need to re-evaluate how you've been taking care of your hair to this point, and find a solution that will help your hair grow. The cosmetologist can help you find a style that works for your lifestyle as you transition to HS.
wow, dats weird cause weave helped me alot, but then wehn i took it off it did damage after a few months, i started doing aloe vera, 1tbs of olive and vitamin E oil blended and place a plastic bag over it for an hour then rinse and wash as usual, i did this once a week every week, for 2 months and my hair got longer, and stronger, that my stylist didnt even have to cut my ends. try this for atleast a month, then when ur hair gets stronger try sew in extensions.

but if u want u can also try buying this product called Doo Grow its for hair that just wont grow, buy from the shampoo to the hair cream, and even hair oil that u apply in the scalp.
Hey well for starters how do u put the weave in??( glue or sew) you also need to know that you have to let ur hair breath before you get it done again even if its for 1 day ..if its dry use olive oil( yes cooking oil) it helps it to become moist and healthy looking sometimes its good to leave it in a scarf for a while dnt use grease it weighs down ur growing process box breads will be the best thing for you to get if u need more questions to be answered hit me up on conschess713@yahoo or conschess718@aol good luck!!
Well i am not a hair professional however the best thing i think to do is 1st if you have a perm STOP at least for the summer, one of the main reason black people's hair does not grow is because a mix of chemicals, you have to remember to make sure your hair and scalp are hydrated even if that means you have to put oil in you hair everyday. Also it might help to get a professional point of view on the situation, it is possible a professional can tell you what other precautions you should take and find a way for you to still look good while doing hair repair.
Stay out of your HAIR!!!!!!!! A lot of young teens love to curl and use every different product out there in their hair!!! KEEP THAT GEL AND HAIR SPRAY AWAY!!!! STICK WITH ONE LINE OF PRODUCTS.

Doo Grow products are really good and they grow your hair fast. But you have to use only their products. They have a oil in a plastic bottle that says Stimulating Growth Oil, use that. DON'T PUT GREASE IN YOUR HEAD use that oil only, no oil sheen either. I cut my hair short close to 9mos. ago and it' down pass my shoulders again.
according to a friend I had in high school thats normal. according to her most cant grow their hair much longer than their chin (unless they're mixed, in which case she joked saying that doesnt count lol). I think her problem was from using too much product to relax her hair though.
well you can start going to a salon and having your hair getting treated and then braiding or weave like tracks i mean it's up too you but you know

your hair grows about 1/2 an inch per month. so thats 6 months in a year. if you grow your natural hair out you have to make sure you don't get breakage a the transition point.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26amp;rlz=1鈥?/a>

you should also learn how to avoid breakage. if you use a lot of heat, learn how to style your hair without heat. you could also put your hair in braids and twists every once in a while (as long as they aren't too tight). avoid split ends by sleeping on a satin pillow and keeping your hair off of your clothes more often.

to speed up your growth rate, you should be drinking a lot of water and eating protein. you could get a hair, skin, and nails vitamin along with msm and biotin. you could also use boundless tresses, it's a hair growth oil. and wetting your scalp more often also helps speed up growth, but it can also cause breakage. exercising more often makes a little difference for me so that might help also.

    African American Hair Growth!!!?

Hi, I am an African American woman. I wear mostly braids and get perms atleast twice a year. From the braids, my hair appears to grow, and grow soooo fast. But when I wear my real natural hair, my hair falls out. I don't know how to take care of my hair because I always wear braids. My hair is not EXTREMELY KINKY, but its thick and very frizzy. Kinda soft when I grease it. What I would like to know is how do I get my African American hair to grow? ( I've heard all the myths and other bull about African American hair growth (: )African American Hair Growth!!!?
the braids are making your natural weak so what you need to do is stop wearing the braids for a whil eand allow you hair to breath a bit and use plenty moist and a good conditioner, but what u also need to remember is that ur hair shed 75-150 a day and even tho you have braids you hair still sheds and when youtake out the braids u loose allthe sheded hair but agian use a very good moisture cream and tha will help...........................Good LuckAfrican American Hair Growth!!!?
I had the same issue a while back. And my problem was that I did not condition my hair enough or wash it enough. My braids were too tight, and I used no conditioner or spray on it. I advise Aphogee to stop your hair from nreaking. After your second treatment your hair will stop breaking.

lay off the braids and try olive oil and pure honey mix that up and and put it on ur hair after u wash it for like 30 mins then rinse thoroughly.2ce a month . that's wat i do and it helps. i go through the same thing.
I think that going from braids to relaxers can be stressful, u also mentioned that ';when u wear your real natural hair'; so im not sure if this is a third presentation of yr hair or u are referring to when u just dont have the braids in. if u are going from ';natural'; (fro-like) to briads to perms, thats a lot of stress and yr hair cld be reacting to that by breaking off.

secondly, im not sure that relaxing ';at least twice a year'; is the right thing to do because the hair grows slighly each month, the relaxer straightens the hair and the new growth coming in wld be in your natural texture...the point at which these two hair textures meet (straightened relaxed hair meets the natural kink or curl of your birth hair) would cause weakness at that point...to my knowledge hair should be relaxed about every 4 weeks or so, depending upon the individual..but going too much more that wld cause breakage

also, braids cannot be tight or there will be hair loss due to the pulling/tightening sensation...while braids can be healthy and growth inducing, too tight braids are not doing a service to you at all.

i would have to say to do what u can to put less stress on your hair..if u really have to relax it (or just want to) use the least harsh, but effective relaxer you can find....however i find that women who wear braids AND relax their hair have thinner, weaker hair...to compensate for this, you have to vigilant about keeping it moisturized....a routine wld involve shampooing with a moisturizing shampoo (do not use ones with alcohol or sulfates as first ingredient as these wld be drying, leading to breakage), deep condition/hot oil treatment weekly, for daily styling use a leave in conditioner or leave in conditioning pomade---do not block the scalp ducts with heavy greases (i.e. petroleum jelly does not belong on most of our scalps)

the best look, the healthiest hair, the simplest care, the strongest, longest hair ive seen has been natural (un-relaxed) hair...even when natural hair is braided, i do not see the thinning that i see in those with relaxed hair.

dreadlocks may or may not be an option for you, but its amazing how fast the hair seems to grow with them, thats becuase the hair that we normally shed is trapped within the lock, adding to the length of it...
they say that you can put in in braids and they have to be tight and then it will make your hair grow and it all depends on the hair
the more you mess with yer hair...the more messed up it gets! leave it alone..natural, get trims here n there....n it will be fine. we overwork our hair to death. it seems like it takes forever to fix...but u gotta leave it alone n let nature take its course!

when ur hair is not in braids try to wear protective styles like twists or buns,,

Here is a link that WILL help you out.
    You asked: ';How do I get my African American hair to grow?';

Simple - keep getting braids and stop perming your hair. I'm assuming you have a good braider that is not contributing to hair thinning / loss by braiding too tightly.

Trim your ends between each set of braids until the perm is completely gone. When all the perm is gone, you can get your natural hair braided without the added hair.

If you're willing to consider locs, look into Bradelocz. This is basically putting braids in your hair once and never taking them out - allowing them to loc.

    http://www.herspecialhair.com/sitesandpa鈥?/a>

Also, think about Sisterlocks. They are created with a method similar to braiding, but are typically very small in diameter.

    http://www.sisterlocks.com

If you like the look of braids, wear them all the time, and want something relatively low maintenance, Bradelocz or Sisterlocks may be the answer you're looking for. Without actually seeing your scalp and knowing whether or not you have any special circumstances, I can almost guarantee your natural real hair will grow as long as you want with either method.

    Hope this helps, Kaya

massage your scalp that way you can allow blood to flow and nourish the roots, do this for 5 mins even research it on the net and you would see it works.
limit the amount of time your hair is braided and allow it to breath for at least a week between the braids. You should see a professional to start out with a good hair care regimine, at least for 2 months, twice a month. And then you can cut back to once every two months to have your ends trimmed.

    So at home remedies are:

    try a good moisturizing shampoo

a good deep conditioner or leave in conditioner

    hot oil treatments

and keep your scalp oiled, at least every other night

First, you need to be sure you are practicing basic hair care techniques. If you do these it will promote healthy hair, keep your hair from breaking off, and grow your hair long:

*Wash your hair regularly with sulfate free shampoos.(at least once a week)

*Moisturize your hair regularly with a quality leave in conditioner.

*Seal in your moisture with oils (as needed)

*Protect the ends of your hair by cutting back on heat styling and wearing hair in protective styles (like buns and ponytails)

*Trim your hair as needed to get rid of split ends.

*Eat a healthy balanced diet and take vitamins

    *Deep condition your hair regularly

*Do protein treatments to strengthen the hair.

You should also look into taking vitamins. Vitamins are a great way to grow your hair. Not only is it great for your hair, it is also great for your body, skin, and nails. I would recommend taking a daily multivitamin with 100% daily nutrients. In addition, take a hair vitamin ( i recommend GNC Ultranourish hair, it works great!). In addition, flaxseed oil and protein are two other important nutrients needed to increase hair growth. You may also want to look in to increasing the amount of MSM, silica, and biotin you take daily outside of your multivitamin and hair vitamin. You'll be surprised at how much faster your hair grows! Here's a guide on what to take and how much:

    http://www.ehow.com/how_5573750_use-vita鈥?/a>

Next, you need to learn about the best products for your hair. Every African-American needs at least 4 products in their arsenal. These are a shampoo, a conditioner, a hair oil, and a leave-in conditioner/moisturizer. You can read more about how to choose the right products here:

    African American Hair growth?

i need my hair to grown in like 2 months anything i can do besides gettin a weave to make it longerAfrican American Hair growth?
1.Drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables is probably the best way to achieving healthy hair.

2.Vitamins B, C, F, zinc, iron, copper and protein are essential for hair growth.

    3. Brush your hair gently with preferably wooden brushes to increase hair growth.

4.Boil 1 cup of celery leaves with stems, strain and add juice of 1 lemon. You can

rinse your hair with this after washing your hair. It makes your hair look healthy

    and lustrous.

5.Lavender oil has been shown to increase hair growth so massage the oil once a week and soak for 30 minutes before washing.

6.If one wants to grow hair, trim the hair once every month.

7.Never brush the hair when it is wet.

8.Massage aloe vera gel over the scalp and leave it for about one hour. After this rinse the hair with warm water. It gives amazing results for hair growth.

9.Rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar and sage tea helps in hair growth

10.Boil rosemary leaves in water and use this water while washing your hair daily to improve hair growth.

11.Massaging your scalp vigorously with your fingers promotes hair growth.

12.Rinsing your hair with one juiced lemon and one cup of water is said to bring

life and shine back to dull hair.

13.Rub olive oil into the scalp to promote hair growth.

14.Massage the scalp with egg yolk, leave for 1 hour and wash.African American Hair growth?
Right now I'm taking Biotin. I am seeing results, slowly. However, I heard this stuff really works. I've been taking it for a month and a half.
    Dr. Miracle's products are good
Take alot of vitamin A...vitamins. xD
I used this hairgrowth oil for hairloss, and it grew my hair longer in about 2 weeks, noticeable.

One of my african american friends tried it, and she had a difference in maybe a month- but hers wasnt growing ina long time.
get braids....that leaves your hair to have a break. not microbraids but like nice braids with little bit of fake hair.
Hair growth is genetically predetermined. However, what I am going to recommend is that you take good care of your hair. Deep condition it every time you wash it. You can try exercising to increase blood flow to your scalp. Also, try massaging your scalp to stimulate growth (use an oil that contains essential oils). Other than that it's a weave/wig city.

Don't waste your money on Miracle Gro for African Fros. Trust me, just a gimmick.
    Use Miracle Hair Growth

    Its like hair grease

Use it along with pink lotion

I use it on my kids all the time

Hey girl, i heard that Doctor Miracle works pretty good, iam sure you have seen it on tv but i no a few people who hav used it and said it works good and also try to stop useing perms i no its hard for us but just try and you will see how good and healthy your hair grows, i stoped usein perms three yrs ago and now my hair is down my back and healthy so try just getting it pressed and not permed. I hope everything works out for you. GOOD LUCK!

    African American Hair Growth

im black and i get a perm and i have dyed my hair before im 14 if that helps and i want my hair to grow longer lately its been breaking off and have alot of split ends so now its really short but i think i took care of the breakage problem already its now back healthy but its still short how do i get it to grow longer and i use organic olive oil productsAfrican American Hair Growth
DO: wear a satin head cap or scarf at night, shampoo once or twice a week with mild shampoos, condition with every shampoo, treat hair gently, ONLY comb (no brushing), eat right + take a daily vitamin and perm every 2-3 months

DONT: sleep on your hair, use heat products frequently, perm more often than you must, wash your hair with drying shampoos, not conditioning enough, wear your hair too tightlyAfrican American Hair Growth
Try to limit the amount of heat you use. Do more roller sets and wrapping instead of a curling iron and flat iron. Make sure you condition your hair well and do hot oil treatments. I like Cantu Shea Butter repair cream. I have natural hair, but if it can keep my hair moisturized, I'm sure it would work great for you. Its at Walmart for like $5.

    African American Hair Growth?

Alright, this question has probably been asked a million times before, but this is CRUCIAL and URGENT. I'm a 15-year-old African American girl who has EXTREMELY coarse, thick, curly hair that just won't grow! Does anyone have any reccomendations for ethnic hair products that will make my diffucult, non-growing hair GROW LIKE CRAZY, FAST? I've wanted my hair past my shoulders for SO LONG, and I'm fed up with my ugly, difficult hair!!! PLEASE HELP.African American Hair Growth?
I keep it simple with my hair. My hair grow fast and very dry. I wash my hair twice a week with a shampoo for dry damage hair. It help moisten my very dry hair. I use different shampoo but, only the one for dry damage or intense moisturizer. Most african american have dry hair because of our tight curl pattern. We just have to take extra care of our hair and it WILL GROW. I also deep condition my hair with a conditioner that allow me to sit under the dryer (the link below is where I buy my conditioner). It is the BEST conditioner in the world too me. It makes my hair STRONG and keep my ends on to accumlate long hair. After I wash my conditioner out; I use a mosturizer (Organic Root Stimulator Carrot Oil or Olive Oil). I prefer the olive oil lotion because my hair seemed to shine more. I wrap my hair wet then, it dries over night. When I unwarp my hair it shines beause of the olive oil. I spray Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Sheen on it then, begin to straithen my hair. I apply olive oil lotion to my hair every night and wrap with a silk scarf. In the morning I remove the scarf, oil sheen hair, and comb out wrap. I only apply heat to my hair twice or once a week. You should at least wash hair once a week or more. It really makes my hair grow. You need a deep conditioner ASAP because it will make your hair very strong. Herbal Essence has a good shampoo that is cheap and read the bottles. It should state, ';DRY DAMAGE'; hair. I would stay away from SUAVE. Some people recommended Profectiv but, I HATE IT. It feels sticky, weigh my hair down, and the moisturizer does not last long. My hair looked very dry with this product. I would not trim ends often because you want obtain LONG HAIR if, you keep chopping them off. I trim ends once or twice a year. DO NOT TRIM ENDS EVERY 6-8 WEEKS!!! MY ends look good and only trimmed twice a year(MAX.). My hair is a little paste my shoulder and GROWING. DO NOT RELAX YOUR OWN HAIR BECAUSE YOU MAY LEAVE CHEMICALS IN HAIR AFTER WASHING. It happen to me and my hair became very weak. I did not like my hair until, I learned to take extra care of it. I hope this information is useful for you and GOOD LUCK!!!!African American Hair Growth?
Hi!! I'm really thinking about taking advice from black beauty. I just wanted to make sure that the products u mentioned are still working for you(so that I wont waste money) and how long has your hair grown in a year. Also popicon 1 did this method work for your hair or is it a bad buy? thank you

As a black girl at the age of 15 when I was in high school I stopped perming my hair and it grew super fast when I mosturized it on a daily basis with hair food.

If your hair is permed, only cut off the straight ends and leave the beautiful natural hair alone. From this point you don't have to cut your hair EVER AGAIN. This is when you can grow your hair long without having to play give and take.

Cutting your hair to make it grow is a myth. The only time you need to cut your hair is if it is over permed or over cooked to brittle ends with a curling iron and hair dryer.

Try to refrain from perming your hair, for years if possible. You will learn that women with straight hair will hate you for your exotic natural beauty and others will wisen to why they can't grow.

Now when maintaining your natural hair wash it 3 times a week with shampoo that states ';For dry or damaged hair';. Whether your hair is damaged or not these types of shampoos will provide good moisture for your scalp and strands. Other shampoos will strip your hair of the moisture it needs and you can tell they are bad when just a small amount leads up to too much lather.

Find a deep leave-in conditioner that penetrates and moisturizes both your scalp and strands. Black people have the driest scalp and strands out of all the other races. The hair strands of other races have too much moisture to worry about quick breakage causing short hair in ours.

If you can, find a concentrated conditioner that helps you skip a day without moisturizing it if possible. Everytime we put moisturizer in our hair it disapears the next day like nothing happened. Let your hair air dry, your natural curls will show better that way.

Do this and your hair will grow super fast. If I am the last person you listen to, you will be glad you did because your hair will grow so fast you will forget the mistakes other people told you that was false. Your hair will grow 6 inches a year. But since you are 15 it may grow twice as fast nonetheless.

When your hair grows long enough, you can perm out the longness. It's your hair not mine. But this is the best advice you will ever get without having to do the extensive ethnic research.
deep conditioners, keep your ends clipped and you can also buy vitamins in wal-mart. (hair and nail vitamins)
Ha ha, ethnic, you said. Its just genetics.

Well, i don't think, there's anything that will make it grow so fast. Although, there are herbal stuffs for hair growth but when you force it to grow fast, it won't. I 'd advice, you forget about that, and live just the way you are, appreciate what you 've got and who knows, one morning you 'd just wake up and find your hair grown like that of Rapunzel.

Oh well, bottom line? Just let it be and use the normal procedures. If you don't braid your hair, try to water and comb it every day, as often as possible. Water is very vital when it comes to growing your hair, forget about those huge hair creams. Just leave it alone, it will grow.

**But, you can try fertilizers and manures, if you insist.
you are having an identity crisis, your hair does not have to be ugly just because it is thick, course, and curly. You are sold on TV and many magazines that you should have Hawaiian silky straight hair, face it you don't, that is why weaves are so popular. Our hair needs moisture, moisture and more moisture, not a pile of grease, You will figure out many different styles over your lifetime.
i agree with confused...i love the organic stimulator products and i get my hair in twist sometimes because you don't have to fool with your hair as much...also try biotin or www.exoticallure.com nothing will happen overnight but i can see a difference
Listen sweetie, I know what you mean. I just cut my hair off and I really miss it, so I'm going to start from scratch and do it all over again. I looked up web sites about hair growth and products to use and I found one that I decided to try. Check out this web site: www.growafrohairlong.com

It has some good ideals. Try it, see if it works for you. I'm starting it this weekend. Good luck.
Your diet greatly affects your hair growth. Hair is leftover cells, so if your body is struggling to stay nourished, it can't devote anything to hair. So, eat well and it may help.

Be careful of how you are wearing your hair. If you are constantly pulling it back or wearing it in harmful styles (barettes, weaves, curling/straightening irons), your hair can become weak and will break - giving it the appearance that it is not growing.

Trimming it won't help it grow - but it will give the appearance of healthier hair (which may look longer) by removing the thin or split ends. Gelatin capsules won't typically help either. However, I have heard some stories that pre-natal vitamins can help, so if you have the money, it may be worth a try.

    Good luck to you!
there's always Motions (its a hair product) but maybe you should make a hair apointment to see what is wrong....

another reason your hair could not be growing is the cause of stress and not eating right, hair weaves that are too tight

but if i was you i would go to a hair stlylist
YOUR HAIR WILL GROW FASTER IF YOU HAVE YOU ENDS TRIMMED EVERY SIX TO EIGHT WEEK. ALSO SOMEONE SUGGEST MOTIONS PRODUCTS. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM MOTIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT A GOOD HAIR CARE LINE. TRY ORGANICS HAIR CARE PRODUCTS BECAUSE THE INGREDIENTS HAVE TREE OIL AND OLIVE OIL WHICH IS REALLY GOOD FOR YOUR HAIR. DO A HOT OIL TREATMENT TWICE A WEEK.ALSO GET YOUR ENDS TRIMMED AND GET SOME BRAIDS OR TWIST BRAIDS TO GIVE YOU HAIR REST SO THAT IT CAN GROW. STAY AWAY FROM GEL ESPECIALLY THE REALLY HARD KIND.
I'm sure your hair grows,so it's probably breaking off. If you use a relaxer make sure the chemical is not being over lapped,do the the new growth only. Look for products that put moisture back in the hair.
    Extensions
My mother used this on my hair when I was about 2 years old. It's called LusterSilks Moisturizer. First wash your hair then put the moisturizer on. Really saturate it. Put plenty on. Then put hair in bun and let it dry. As the days go by continue to put it on but lightly now. It may feel a little greasy at first but as time goes by the hair will become soft. Continue to do this for some time. It's amazing how much your hair will start to grow. Trust me.
Try a line of products called Profectiv. Its a bit pricey but totally worth the money. The relaxers dont dry hair out like crazy and the conditioners moisturize hair really well and prevent breakage. Its is a bit difficult to find but you should find in a really good beauty supply or sometimes in Family Dollar. Try www.profectiv.com . Also when you go to bed at night wrap your hair or roll it, depending on the style. And tie your hair with a silk scarf. NEVER USE COTTON WRAGS, they absorb all of your hair's moisture causing in to break easily. Stay away from curling irons and avoid combing your hair constantly. Its better to brush your hair because it distributes oils evenly to moisturize hair. Don't use a boar brush, use a plastic coated wire brush. If you don't know the difference ask a stylist. Also find you a good hair stylist that is into getting you a head of healthy hair and not someone who is only into a GOOD LOOKING HAIRSTYLE. Healtier hair always looks better than spritzed or gelled hair. If you have any questions let me know.
    doo-gro works . . have u tried braids??

Girl.. im 15 to and trying to grow my thich course hair. i went to these websites.. i will list later.. and they helpd me sooo must. what worked fa me was relaxing et my self wid vitale mo' body lye perm kit.. vitale is a safe perm but it dose get straight but not tin lookin and straight so it will still have body to et..so you wont have to go natural because that is a lotta lotta work... but if you really dont wanna perm et use a real real good CERAMIC hot iron.... and the best hair care line to use is keracare.. you got to go to dillards, jcpennys, and mall corner stores to purchase it.. but DO NOT GET A STYLIST do it your self trust me it will grow better. also try not to use a lot of heat on relaxed hair from hot irons and blow dryers... or gels like prostyle that contain alchol and protein because too protein in your hair may dry et out and lead to breakage.. and also you should plat it and do these thigs called braid outs... i gotta lot ta say to you girl just email me industry_chick_2008@yahoo.com

  • HELP!- african american hair growth help! =]?

Hi! I`m a 17 year old african american female who is looking for tips on further growing my hair so that it`s long and healthy. During the summer, i`d gotten my hair cut due to massive split-ins from micros and highlights. It was cut into a bob, so the back of my head was SHAVED OFF. Now it is almost shoulder lengh, but i would like for it to be midway down my back before next summer. Is this possible?

My hair is relaxed and I get a relaxer every 7 to 8 weeks. HELP! thanks so much! It`s simi-kinky of course (lol) and it tends to get dry often, so i try to keep it moisturized. =]

I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment by hoping for mid-back length hair by next summer. Instead, why not set some smaller goals? Go for armpit length by the beginning of the summer. Hopefully you'll meet or exceed that goal. Then you can shoot for bra strap length by beginning of winter. And so on...Reward yourself each time you reach a goal. These small goals and rewards will help keep you on track so that you don't give up.

I think relaxing every 8 weeks is fine. In the meantime, try washing and conditioning your hair every week. Deep condition every two weeks. Get a trim with every relaxer. A quarter of an inch should do just fine if you're taking good care of your hair.

Taking good care of your hair would include: moisturizing your ends nightly (hairoil.com has a good product for this), covering your hair with a scarf nightly, low manipulation, low heat (VERY important), wear your hair up as much as possible, keep your hair off fabrics like wool (coats, hats, and sweaters), keep your hands off your hair.

Good luck! I'm sure you can do it!HELP!- african american hair growth help! =]?
you can do a two strand twist or braids with your hair. try to use natural hair products for your hair. nappturality.com has great advice on natural products.

First, when you are relaxing your hair, make sure that you are only relaxing the new growth, and not all of your hair. (Some people do all of the hair, which is incorrect.) Next, you should drink plenty of water, which will not only help with heair growth, but will also detoxify your body of any impurities. you should also take vitamins that are targeted at hair and nail growth (and multi-vitamins won't hurt either). Also, lay off of the micros, or any other style that will damage your hair. If you don't already, I suggest taht you invest in a satin hair scarf to wrap your head in at night - or a satin pillowcase. The cotton from your pillow case or a cotton scarf is also rough on your hair since it sucks the moisture out of it. And one other thing, try using a hot oil treatment when once a week when you wash and condition your hair. Alberto VO5 has a great one that you don't even have to heat up. You just wet your hair, then put in about a quarter of the bottle (one bottle = four applications) for one minute, then rinse it out. After that, you continue with your normal shampoo and conditioning routine. It leaves your hair softer and easier to manage. I hope this helps. :)
you should take a look at this website

    i hope this helps
Just continue to keep it washed and conditioned every 2 weeks and your scalped greased. I have used the Pink Oil moisturizer. I find that it dries my hair and scalp.Try Mega Care raw shea butter oil. It can be found at hair and beauty supplies stores. It comes in a small clear tube. Also use it to wrap your hair. It works better than wrap%26amp;tap. Your will be so silky.

African American hair growth! I need help!?

i have shoulder length african american hair. i would love to not use heat or a relaxer on my hair. i use to let my hair air dry. it gets puffy and i can't leave my house. so how could i still air dry but make it look nice, as in not puffy.

it's not growing. i go to a hair dresser every other week. i get it deep conditioned every other visit. i put oil and protein complex in my hair as well. i also wrap it. still not growing. so i was going to stop using perms. but the only other thing i could do is to use a pressing comb or flat iron which uses heat. which should i use? there doesn't seem a way around it. i either have to let it grow out natural, which i won't. or get a relaxer. or use a pressing comb/ flat iron.

what should i do?!African American hair growth! I need help!?
    1. thats too much direct heat.

    2. You can have healthy hair thats relaxed..it just takes a little more knowledge and work.

    look at her hair: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QDOPWlDylV4

she's relaxed and her hair is beautiful.

    3. you should get relaxers every 8-10 weeks instead. Roller setting in between touch ups help minimize the amount of heat. So..you'd rollerset..sit under a dryer, take the rollers down, blow out the roots or flat iron them [the roots only!]. Then style your curls as you'd like..or wrap it. Make sure you use a good heat protectant when flat ironing. I recommend fantasia ic straightening [pink bottle]. Or some sort of straightening serum.

    4. you should deep condition at least twice a week.

    5. You can air-dry it in a bun.

    6. DONT get discouraged your hair is growing..if it wasnt then what is newgrowth? You feel me? What are you relaxing if your hair isnt growing? Maybe your hair dresser is cutting off your progress.

heres some more help from her..

Dont hesitate email me if you have any questions.African American hair growth! I need help!?
You can still get relaxers. Just be sure to only get them every 6-8 weeks and be sure to oil/lubricate your scalp really well. I promise you your hair can still grow using them...I'm a living witness! Also when you wash and air dry, try using a leave-in conditioner and scrunch it to make it wavy/curly. Use a serum for shine. Lay off the heat (blow dryer, curling irons, flat irons, pressing combs). I would also incorporate more water intake and a daily multivitamin. Increasing your protein intake should help as well as a daily scalp massages. Hope this helps!
Lay off the relaxer, it can damage hair growth follicles. Do not use too much oil near the scalp because that can clog the follicles. Also, I would wash my hair at least once a week, to stimulate growth and braid it so that it can be curly/wavy when you take it out. If that doesn't help, see a dermatologist.
My daughter is 38 and her hair is so thick and almost touches her behind. Most of the time, all she does to it is wash it, oil the scalp, and plat it. When she takes out the plats, she has the wavy look. Sometimes, she will pull a warm pressing comb through it and pin it up. Make sure the comb is just warm and not hot! If you condition it well you won't have a lot of breakage.
I am in the process of going natural right now. My hair is difficult to deal with even with a relaxer. I have been relaxing since I was 12. I would go to the hair dresser every two weeks and my hair is still very thick. I'm not complaining and neither should you because thick hair is a good thing.

You do not need to go to the hair dressing every week or every two weeks to start the natural process. Start by getting natural products for your hair. Shea butter, jojoba hot oil, coconut leave in conditioner, etc.

Right now I have a sew in weave. I'll do this for a while then wear it out. It going to be very hot soon so you might want to consider micro braids, goddess braids or flat twist. I also bought a Sedu flat iron (Sedu or Chi are the best) for those days I want to wear just my hair.

You have tons of options to help you through the process. And different style you can get. Don't spend all your money going to a hair dresser for things you can do at home. I only recommend the hair dresser when you need a trim for dead ends. You don't have to be stuck with the pony tail style.

    GOOD LUCK....HAVE FUN!
I am afr/wht mix, with hair to by but...real hair.. I never get perms, which start the destruction at the root. I flat iron my hair about twice a week, give it natural air dry, every time. I don't get the frizzes anymore, because I now let my hair do what it does naturally. It needs to do what it does. Even on day when I don't flat iron, I use a hair band, and still as long as you do your thing, no one will care what your hair looks like...Have confidence, it's only one or two days... As far a straightening, I use a flat iron, that has control over heat, the pressing comb, does not...which is very dangerous, I also use a Olive Oil sheen, that is in a green can, That can be purchased at any department store...no more perms...let your hair grow naturally, that's the only way to get your hair healthy....

Okay well i really need to grow my hair at lease shoulder length. One side is down to my chin %26amp; the other is down to my ear UHHH!! i HATE this. i need my hair to at lease be shouler length by January 7. My friend told me told use Crisco鈩?then flat iron it and it should grow. does anyone know anything i can do PLEASE IM DESPIRIT.African American Hair Growth [HELP!]?
First, you have to understand that hair grows an average of 6 inches per year which breaks down to 1/2 inch per month. Growing longer hair will take time and patience. I don't think that's what you want to hear since you have a deadline but that's the truth. If your hair is Afro-textured- moisturizing, deep conditioning, shampooing on a regular basis (no once a month business), and taking a quality multi- vitamin (with zinc, iron, biotin), and drinking water will be your best friends. Good luck but don't get discouraged since consistency is key. Oh and PLEASE don't use Crisco to flat iron. It's a recipe for disaster and will not promote hair growth. Instead buy a heat protectant or serum to prevent against heat damage if you want to straighten your hair.African American Hair Growth [HELP!]?

by january 7th?? lol...oh lord just get a weave....

and your friend was playing with you...or i think that she is extremely evil and wants you bald!

you have about a year to go....(or maybe less) depending on your growth pattern.

Don't forget that African-American hair is extremely fragile and delicate (even if it looks rough and coarse)and you must take good care of it. I suggest you keep it braided getting it redone every week or two, and keeping it moisturized. Also, don't forget trim every 6-8 weeks.

but for shoulder length hair by what, Monday after next? Get a quick fix with extensions!
well why is your hair uneven? ok. well i heard that if you massage your head it will stimulate your nerves, causing your hair to grow faster. i really dont think your hair will grow that fast by the 7th though, since thats coming up pretty soon. if your hair is kinda curly, you could straighten it to add a little length, but other than that im not sure what else you could do!
Currently i have long hair and have been learning alot so...

i do not have a relaxer i stopped getting them 5 years ago ( and i've only have 3 relaxers in my life time so this is all natural) so i can show you how to take care of hair with or without a relaxer.

    1. The shampoo, unfortunately many black women are using shampoos with alcohol and petroleum jelly. step away from them. Use Aveda's shampoo.. specifically the name is Brilliant...go to the website. I use it, i love it, it mouisterizes my hair and the products are natural. i have also heard that KeraCare is good.

    2. Okay, step two condition it and then it is time to comb it out, Do not use a brush on you hair when it is wet,,it will hate you for it then break off in revenge. Put your your sections use a big tooth comb, to untangle it

    3. Do a hot oil treatment atleast once a month with extra virgin olive oil...repeat..EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil..not the regular stuff. unfortunately i have yet to take this step however my hair is doing great.

    4. Okay on the daily basis you need to pay close attention to your hair...i recommend conditioning your scalp(3-4 times a week) and your ends(everyday) so that they will not get dry and unhealthy Petroleum jellly and mineral oil are weapons of mass destruction ( in other words do not use grease) it does so much harm to your hair it cannot be all explained here. So you ask what do I use...well natural oils

jojoba oi, extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, emu oil, coconut oil...all these natural oils and more love you..i promise.

I also use Aveda's Brilliant ( the name of the brand) emollient for my ends.

    5. Next,,if you want your hair straight but still be natural it is time to get a freakin good flat iron.,i have the Chi..it does the job but I recommend getting the Sedu because of the good reviews. make sure to protect your hair..i have so thermal protector from Aveda.

    6. If you have a relaxer ( i have heard that Mizani and Affirm are the best relaxers) don't continue to relaxer all your hair everytime you go to the salon..just the new growth and try to stretch relaxers as long as possible.

    7. You do not need to trim your hair everytime you go to the salon maybe every 3 to 6 months.

    8. Wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf to prevent damage before you go to bed.

    9. Eat healthy, drink lots of water,

10 take multivitamins, and fish oil pills you can get from GNC.

Follow these steps and life will be good..the best part about flat iron (which i do once a week or every two weeks not everday since it will kill your hair) is that it is not stringy but thick and healthy, yet straight and light enough to blow in the wind.
    Crisco is a bad idea.
What happens when you heat grease?? It equals frying. You will literally fry your hair which will then cause breakage. The only thing you can do is to trim the damaged ends of your hair and give it time. You should try changing your diet, exercise and maybe use some vitamin supplements. Biotin is effective with hair growth but will also cause acne break outs so use the smallest dose that you can and still see results.

African American hair does not grow slow but if you are placing a lot of chemicals in your hair it does slow down the process of your hair growth it can even stunt your hair growth.

That is why African American women are going Natural becuase you hair is in a more natural state and your hair can grow amazing fast.

I'm African American and my hair doesn't grow slow Caucasian hair seems to grow faster because they stimulate their scalps a lot more than we do they shampoo the hair on a regular basis and brush their hair a lot so if u do those things u should be okay
To be honest, a lot of us don't take care of our hair like we should. Keep hair clean, and ends trimmed every 3-4 months or as needed (dead hair don't grow). Don't sleep without wrapping your hair up or tying it down. Silk scarves are very good for our hair. Oh, and the products that you use should give you a lot of benefits, every product is not for everyone.
you probably have a perm or damage your hair with tons of heat, like the average african american girl, and that's why it grows slow. but if you take good care of it naturally, it grows just as fast as white peoples or any other race.

When I came back from college her hair was healthy and full again and I asked her what she used and she used the ReGro grease. I used it (to grease scalp) also and kept my hair braided (cornrows w/ sew-in tracks) for like 2 months...my hair is sooooo full and healthy! I love it and recommend it to everyone!
Yes I have but its been awhile Flo Anthony is a spokes person for it.
no. but i have heard of dr.miracle.

hello I am an african american I am realaxed and I want my hair to grow really long what products should I use and what should I do ? please helpAfrican american hair growth CLICK?
I am a stylist and others will have different opinions but, Since you do have relaxed hair I recommend keeping your ends clipped once every 2 weeks. No more than a 1 inch just a a little bit of a trim. This is what I do I do and I see amazing results with growth. Also, you want to try to work with MIZANI's or KeraCare which are great products for African American hair. I really don't work with grease just because it ways my hair down a lot so i just moisture it every so often with olive oil and keep it wrapped every single night. Try not to put that much heat on it since it tends to fry your ends. Hope this helped!. Good Luck!

Relaxing will not break your hair off. It just depends if you taking care of your hair. You don't relaxers every 2 weeks either not even once a month. If you taking care of your hair then I promise you will see grow.African american hair growth CLICK?
Don't relax it anymore; it ruins your hair. Wash it with a very good shampoo, I recommend Garnier or Aussie, or anything specifically made for hair that's been relaxed, or anything made to keep black people's hair in control. Try micro-braids, too. You have to get them touched up frequently, but it helps to keep your hair from breaking off.
african american style hair does not grown AS fast as a person of non-Color (Sorry im trying to make this sound like im not a totally racist whore!) So it might take longer- just eat well, drink loads of water, lay of there hairdryer, flat irons, etc and it should grown quite fast

Anyone knows about African American hair growth products.?

my hair won't growth, it's thinning, and I want to grow it longer. Help!!! Please.Anyone knows about African American hair growth products.?
downey gave a stupid answer ! im white and i know , first you need to figure why your hair is thinning is it because of to many relaxers or curls? is it genetic? talk to your dr first ask him if you are able to take a vitamin called biotin it helps with hair and nail growth, if your hair is breaking off due to chemicals then the obvious answer is to go nappy for a while, it really is in right now, and no extensions right now your hair does not seem to be strong enough to support them, i hope this helps and contact your most popular hairdresser in your area, most hair stylists will give you an honest answer some for free some for a small consultation cost check into it , good luck and remember to massage your scalp at least 20 min a day to stimulate blood flow to the hair roots ,, this does work i swear!!Anyone knows about African American hair growth products.?
Ya african americans, us white people dont no **** about it.

fdgWhat do you suggest for the fastest african american hair growth .. supplement or oil !!?
The best thing for any one is vitamin E or vitamin E oil for a topical but that just makes the hair u allready have better sometimes prenatal vitamins do the tick but that makes everything grow fast
Deep conditionning 3 times a week. Proper moisturizing every day.

I've done this for 3 months and my hair already grew 3 inches.
neither...eating properly so you receive proper nutrients.

however, if you insist on either i would say supplement since growth starts from the inside

    More African American Hair Growth?

I am growing out my relaxer, but I am fighting to keep moisture in my hair. Can anyone suggest a good hair product for coarse African American hair that gets dry very often as well as a natural straightener?More African American Hair Growth?
For transitioning, a good moisturizer is Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive heavy cream. I've provided the link. It's made with all natural ingredients that support moisture retention and hair growth. I have very dry hair and it's the only thing that works for me. As you will see from most of the people who use it - via the testimonials, it's very effective.

It does not contain mineral oil or petroleum--both of which clog pores by attracting dirt and acting as a barrier to moisture.

Qhemet also carry great refreshing sprays that work well on dry hair. I also like the Karkady Replenishing Spray...works well on natural and relaxed.

In terms of natural straighteners--alot of people will say that they have this--but really its more for people who are all natural and who want to relax the curl in their hair. As the other person commented, Treasured Locks does have a ';straightener.'; But it's really a clay that has be used multiple times and it is more effective for all natural hair that is kinky, but wants a solution to relax the curl. Even then, it's not that effective and can leave you with a bunch of junk in your hair--like sand from the clay...twigs..LOL...not sure what all of that is..but it is not for everyone.

Ideally, you want to soften your new growth and keep it moisturized. It helps to use a sulfate free shampoo, or to use a pre-poo technique. This will reduce the possibilty of drying out your hair during each wash. Avlon's Keracare make a good detangling shampoo...and their are some all natural ';no poo'; shampoos that work well. I've provided some additiona links below regarding this.

There are styles you can do that will work for transitioning--straw sets, twist outs...I've provide a link below that will talk about the style possibilities.

Miss Jessies has a great product for transitioning...as was as Kinky Curly. Both can set your hair into great twist out and straw-sets without using drying gels.

If you are planning on going for several months to a year to transition without cutting--then the natural style transitions are your best options. As you know, applying heat to the new growth will dry it out and eventually cause it to break.

Several hair care forums have some great tips for transitioning. There are so may tips that one may appeal to you more than the other. I've provided a link to the websites.More African American Hair Growth?

A good hair product is a hair grease by the name brand Medina. You may not be able to find that in the store but I think you can order it online.

Help for african american hair growth?

my hair wont grow, and i dont know why because my other friends have hair that reach their back .my hair is still the same ,please somebody give me tips to have long hair like themHelp for african american hair growth?
Deep condition you hair weekly, do a hot oil treatment monthly, get your hair trimmed every 6 weeks, and avoid using heat on your hair as much as possible.Help for african american hair growth?
I'm going to say this again....African hair is African hair. Just because your American, doesn't make your hair different from all other ***** hair. They have different gene and that's what probably gives them that advantage. Hair takes time to grow. Especially African hair. Just be patient and care for your hair in the best way possible...Regular hot oil treatments are good. Clipping the ends every 6wks. Condition condition condition. Use herbal products for your hair. Tea tree oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil. Even hemp oil and shampoo/Conditioner. Less blow drying. Braid, plait or twist the hair whether wet or dry. Massage the scalp regularly. Eat well. Drink lots of water. Take Multi-vitamins. And most of all...Just be patient. If you can't wait, then just add hair extensions.
if your hair is at shoulder length then your ';lack of growth'; is probably your lack of retaining growth. At that length the ends of your hair rub against alot of things, such as your clothes and scarfs in the winter, causing it to break and seemingly not grow. Try to wear protective styles that keep your hair from rubbing against things.

What are the best products to use for African American Hair Growth and Health?

I have been using Dr.Miracles scalp treatment for 2 months now while i have in kinky twists at the moment. What are some other good products? What are the best products to use for African American Hair Growth and Health?
The best products to use on our hair are Motions and Aphogee.

There are a few products that are made for horses that can grow your hair extremly fast, Shapley's MTG, and Eqyss Mega Tek. I have use both produts and they can grow your hair an inch or more a month. MTG has a strong smell but will grow your hair if u can ignore the smell and Mega Tek should only be applied 2-3 times a week. There is a human product for growth made by MTG called Sulu Max Gro which is really just MTG at a higher price. Mega Tek also has a human version at a higher price so i suggest starting off with the horse type, i started with MTG and got great results. Deep condition your hair with the Aphogee products also try hair, skin, and nail pills from GNC. Im African american my hair is type 4c and stops at the middle of my back. Also take Biotin supplement.

    Essential oils will also help-

Arnica: a rinse with arnica is known to treat with dry, itchy scalp and hair loss

Basil: a beneficial herb that stimulates and promotes hair growth; Massaging basil mixed with a carrier oil of your choice promotes healing, health and imporved scalp circulation - which, in turn promotes hair growth

Bay: add a few drops of bay oil to your daily hair cleanser to stimulate hair growth

Burdock: using burdock essential oil will stimulate blood flow to your hair's root helping with hair loss and encouraging hair growth

Lavendar: lavendar is widely used to treat hair loss and assist in getting hair growing again; this oil promotes hair growth

Peppermint (one of my faves): stimulates blood flow in your scalp (and the tingle proves it) which encourgages hair root nourishment and growth; peppermint has been beneficial to thos whose hair is thinning or slow growing

Rosemary (one of my faves): regular use of rosemary has a stimulating effect on hair bulbs to prevent premature balding and ';jump start'; growth activity; rosemary has been noted to be extremely beneficial to help grow hair

Sage: using sage as a part of your hair regimen will not only keep your hair dark, but will assist in hair loss reduction

Tea Tree: regular use of tea tree oil in your hair regimen will not only moisturize your strands, but tea trea oil helps reduce oil production on the scalp and helps with dry, itchy scalp (a healthy scalp is the necessary for hair growth)What are the best products to use for African American Hair Growth and Health?

Genetics determines whether or not a person hair will be long or short. Just make sure you don't over process your hair. If it's relaxed get a touch up every 6 to 8 wks %26amp; ends clipped. Get a roller set/doobie or wrap. The less you have to use heat (curling/flat irons) the better off. Good luck

As an experiment I asked, ';What are the best products for White Americans hair growth and health'; and it was considered racist. Was it because I used the ';W'; word?

Perhaps I should have said Caucasian? Actually that would've been more offensive. It is more related to the N word. Double standards?
